Chapter Four: Pitchin’ A Fit

Only a Southerner knows the difference between a hissie fit and a conniption fit, and that you don't "HAVE " them, you "PITCH"  them.

Uh.

It took conscious effort, but Trowa managed to wake up enough to get his brain working. He was very warm for some reason, especially the front of him. And it felt like he was snuggled against something. His nose woke up and informed him that there was a deliciously musky scent, apparently coming from the sheets, and that the slight hint of mint was coming from something right next to his face.

Trowa cracked open an eye to further investigate this very interesting report. It took a second for the mussed chestnut hair to penetrate and make sense, but when it did his eyes shot wide.

Duo?

Wow. He had Duo in bed with him. Naked and in bed with him, if feeling was anything to go by. Wow. How had he managed that?

About this time, Duo stirred slightly. “Trowa?”

“Yeah?” Ack. It felt like his mouth was glued together it was so dry.

“I think I have a hangover. Can you get a hangover from having too much sex?”

Actually, that’s how Trowa felt, as if he had overindulged in something the night before. Of course, he had—overindulged that is. He had explored that beautiful masculine body until neither of them could remember their names. “I think it must be possible, because we did it. Other than that, how are you?”

Duo turned slightly to smile up at him fuzzily. “I’m fantastic. How are you?”

“Fantastic,” Trowa agreed with a slight smile and pressed a soft kiss to Duo’s mouth. Even that word was an understatement. “And thirsty,” he added. “I need to let King out, then what do you say we rustle up some breakfast?”

“I think I want a shower before breakfast,” Duo noted. He waggled his eyebrows mischievously. “I’m a little sticky for some reason.”

“Wonder how that happened,” Trowa deadpanned. They exchanged very satisfied grins and a lingering kiss. Trowa couldn’t remember a time he felt more content. Lying in bed like this, wrapped around Duo, was like a little slice of heaven.

Give it to me baby. Uh-huh. Uh-huh. And all the girls say I'm pretty fly for a white guy.”

Trowa jerked around in surprise. “What is that?”

“Oh.” Duo was already sitting up, looking around for his pants. “That’s my cell phone.”

King barked at the song, nosing his way into the bedroom. He traveled up to the bed and propped himself up so he could greet his master. Trowa absently scratched him right behind the ears as Duo crawled out of bed. The bed was a waterbed and dipped drastically as Duo moved. A naked Duo (especially one bending over and looking for his pants) is a very distracting thing. Trowa caught himself almost drooling at several points.

Finally Duo found his pants (they had been lurking under Trowa’s) and unearthed his cell phone. “Hello?” he rolled his eyes expressively and hung up. “One of these days, I’m going to figure out how people I don’t want calling me gets my cell phone number.”

Trowa had experienced a few wrong numbers himself. It was rather annoying, actually. “Go ahead and jump in the shower. I’ll let King out.”

Duo cast a leer over his shoulder. “And then you’ll join me…right?”

Trowa’s eyes traveled up and down that wonderfully naked body and felt himself rise a little to the occasion. “As long as I have an invitation.”

“You always have an invitation,” Duo purred as he sauntered into the adjacent bathroom.

Trowa stared at that open door for a moment—then leapt into action. He snatched up a pair of sweatpants and dove into them. “Come on, King.”

King was close on his heels as he led him to the backyard. Trowa paused in the balcony doors to look down at him sternly. “Stay in the yard.”

King barked in confirmation of his order then dashed outside.

Trowa was fairly sure that the dog would stay in the fenced backyard this time. King usually obeyed him—unless Duo was around. Duo had a knack for making the dog forget his original orders. Trowa brushed aside these thoughts and hurried back to his bedroom. He had a naked man in the shower, and that was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.

It was nearing ten o’clock before they got around to breakfast. Trowa nearly burned himself three times because Duo was wandering around in just a pair of jeans with his hair loose. Finally, in sheer self-preservation, he made Duo cook before he burned the house down.

Duo was snickering at him, but took over cooking the pancakes. Trowa was sitting at the bar, idly enjoying the view of Duo moving around in front of the stove, when the phone rang.

Give it to me baby. Uh-huh. Uh-huh.”

Duo dug out his phone from a pocket and tossed it to Trowa. “Answer that for me would you? These need to be flipped.”

Trowa flipped the phone open and put it to his ear. “Hello?”

There was a moment of silence before a feminine voice demanded, <Who is this?>

Trowa arched an eyebrow. “Trowa Barton. If you’re trying to get Duo you’re going to have to wait a moment. Who is this?”

<This is his girlfriend, Lindsey.>

Trowa froze, feeling as if someone had just sucker punched him. Girlfriend? Duo had a girlfriend? Then what was last night all about?

Duo was suddenly right in front of him, snatching the phone away. “Who is this?” he demanded harshly. His eyes were searching Trowa’s frantically.

<Duo, what are you doing at Trowa’s house so early in the morning?!>

Duo’s eyes closed at the inevitability of it all. “Lindsey. You’re a bitch, you know that?” She started screeching something at that, but Duo took the phone away from his ear and let it rest against the countertop. He couldn’t deal with Lindsey right now, he needed to focus on Trowa. His boyfriend had completely shut down when he’d answered the phone. Duo needed to straighten him out first.

He walked around the bar, moving to stand in between Trowa’s legs. Gently he cradled Trowa’s head with both hands, making sure that he had his complete focus. “Trowa. There’s just you. Lindsey is an ex-girlfriend that’s driving me crazy, that’s all.” Seeing him thaw a little, Duo leaned in and kissed him gently. “Only you,” he whispered soothingly.

Trowa snaked both arms around his boyfriend’s waist and tugged him in sharply, lifting his head to deepen the kiss. It had scared him badly when he thought that last night was only a fluke—he wanted so much more from Duo than just a night of sex. Duo gave a little murmur of pleasure and relaxed into the embrace, warming to the rough urgency of Trowa’s mouth.

The smell of burning pancakes snapped them out of their pleasure haze. Cursing, Duo sprinted back to the stove and quickly lifted the skillet off. “Damn. Well, that batch is a lost cause.”

Trowa couldn’t care less about the pancakes. He was more focused on ex-girlfriends. Reaching out he snapped the phone shut, mentally trying to figure out a way to bring up the subject.

Duo turned off the stove and set the skillet aside. Blowing out a loud breath he turned with a rueful smile. “Sorry, Tro. I forgot to warn you about Lindsey.”

“She sounds like a stalker,” Trowa offered hesitantly.

“That description is actually mild,” Duo grumbled to himself. “I’ve known Lindsey for…geez…ages. Since high school I think. Anyway, at first she was okay. Kinda cool, actually, and she was damn hot. I was in the stage of denying that I was even attracted to guys then, so I started dating her. I think it was more to prove to myself that I was ‘normal’ than anything else but…anyway, about a year ago I just couldn’t fool myself any longer. I was bisexual, and Lindsey was driving me up the wall. I broke it off with her. Somehow—don’t ask me how, cause I never said anything—she’s got it in her head that I’m gay and she’s been complaining to my mother ever since. And stalking me ever since, supposedly to ‘fix’ me.”

Trowa nodded, absorbing all of this information. “So when I answered this morning…”

“She jumped to several conclusions,” Duo finished wryly. “Correct assumptions in this case. I mean, why else would a man be found at someone else’s house this early in the morning? Sex must be involved.”

“Great sex,” Trowa corrected. He was beginning to find some amusement in the whole situation. He relaxed even further when Duo beamed at him. He would do a lot to keep that happy expression on his boyfriend’s face. “So what will be her next step, do you think?”

“Hm…” Duo considered that for a moment. “Thirty minutes to put on makeup, ten to get dressed, twenty to figure out where she put her keys…I estimate that in about an hour she’ll be banging on the front door.”

“Oh goodie.”

Trowa was doing breakfast dishes when the doorbell rang. And rang. Actually, it sounded like someone was stabbing at it. Ah. That must be the stalker ex-girlfriend. Drying off his hands absently, he moved to answer the door.

He didn’t know quite what he was expecting, but…hm. Trowa studied the woman standing on his doorstep with an almost clinical eye. She was very beautiful—long blonde hair to her waist, golden brown eyes, very pleasantly formed features (somewhat marred by a scowl). She was dressed in the latest fashion of dropped waist jeans, a pink shirt that wrapped and tied at the waist, and in full makeup. She was also glaring at Trowa as if she wished he would drop dead in front of her eyes. “Well?” she snapped at him testily. “Where’s my Duo?”

This woman was ruining a perfectly good morning, in Trowa’s opinion, and was trying to steal his boyfriend besides. With absolutely no compunction whatsoever he arched an eyebrow at her and drawled, “My Duo is in the backyard playing with my dog.”

“What do you mean your Duo?”

Her voice really was unpleasantly shrill. It grated on Trowa’s nerves, making him even more testy. “Just as I said. My Duo, as in my boyfriend.”

“So he is gay!”

“Bi, actually. I’m gay. Now that you have all your questions answered will you please go away? You’re disrupting a perfectly nice morning.” He would have said more, but he recognized the sound of paws running along a wooden floor. Ah. Duo must be inside again. Perfect, he could deal with his annoying ex. Turning slightly Trowa called, “Duo? She’s here!”

“Aw nuts,” floated the aggrieved reply.

“DEUTERONOMY MAXWELL!” Lindsey shrieked. “GET OUT HERE NOW!”

Trowa winced as that was screamed right next to his ear.

Duo appeared in the next instant, standing right next to Trowa and glaring at Lindsey. Quietly he murmured, “Tro, let me handle this?”

Getting away from the woman was fast becoming a priority. Trowa nodded, and pressed a kiss against Duo’s temple before muttering, “Call if you need backup.”

“I will,” Duo muttered back in dry amusement. He gave a soft kiss to Trowa’s cheek before the taller brunet disappeared into the house.

Lindsey stood there, watching this affectionate exchange with a dropped jaw. Never had Duo been as physically demonstrative with her! He barely held hands with her in public! “Duo,” she whined. “I don’t understand you at all. Why are you doing this to us?”

Duo took in a deep breath before he turned to face her. He was beyond fed up with the situation, and his patience with her was gone. “Lindsey. It’s over between us. It’s been over for a year. I’ve told you time and again to stay away from me, to not call me, to not email me—what you tried to do this morning with Trowa is unforgivable.”

“It is absolutely disgusting that you two even want to touch each other!” she spat venomously. “Duo, it was good between us—”

“Yeah, the first six months it was.” Duo could admit that without a qualm. Then, Lindsey was cool and very beautiful. That unfortunately hadn’t lasted long. “After that it was all downhill. Now listen to me because this is the last time I say it. You’re going to leave me and my boyfriend alone or so help me I’ll call Wufei up and get a restraining order put on you, got it?”

She nearly shook with indignation. “Duo! You wouldn’t dare!”

“Try me,” he growled back. “You hurt him this morning, and that is something that I won’t forgive.”

“I’m not leaving you here with him! He’s seduced you!”

Actually, it had been the other way around…kinda.

Lindsey was just getting warmed up with fanatical indignation. “He—he forced you to—”

“No one forced me to do anything,” Duo snarled. “Trowa is the best thing that ever impacted with my crazy life and if you say one more derogatory word about him I’m going to slap you! Now go away Lindsey before I really lose my temper!”

Unnoticed by anyone, King had been hovering a few feet behind Duo, watching carefully. When his favorite person started yelling at the other person, he started shifting uneasily. He’d never seen Duo angry before, or yell. His master came up and knelt beside him, gently stroking his back.

“King?”

King turned and whined anxiously, the best he could do at expressing his unease with the situation. As he looked into those green eyes, he could tell his master wasn’t very happy about it either.

“King, I want you to chase her into her car. No biting.”

Chase? King’s tail started wagging in fierce anticipation. He barked once just to confirm he understood, then bounded for the front door.

Duo was nearly knocked off balance as the huge German Shepherd shouldered his way through. He grabbed the doorframe to keep upright. “King, what—”

Lindsey jerked back as the dog started barking and growling at her. “Duo, call him off!”

King wasn’t having it. This woman had a shrill voice that was annoying his ears, and he had his master’s permission to get rid of her. He barked again, snarling and crouched low as if he were going to jump for her throat.

Lindsey’s nerve broke and she twisted around sharply, running for the safety of her car. She was screaming for help, for someone to call the dog off all the way to her Impala.

King did give her a few seconds to get the door open and scramble inside, then he pressed in close and kept the barking and growling up. This was fun, his master should give these orders more often.

Duo knew good and well that King really wasn’t going to hurt anyone. He’d seen that dog move when he wanted to attack something—he hadn’t been running at even a third of his true speed. So it was without any worry whatsoever that he stood in the doorway and just enjoyed the scene. Sensing Trowa behind him he turned and grinned up at his boyfriend. “I love that dog.”

Trowa nodded in agreement, eyes twinkling as he took in the situation. His grin widened when Lindsey gave up talking to them and drove away in a screech of tires.

King trotted back, tongue lolling out of one side of his mouth, quite clearly pleased with himself. He nosed at Trowa’s hand and got a good scratching behind his ears.

“Good job,” Trowa complimented him. “Come inside and I’ll give you some bacon for following orders.”

Bacon? He loved bacon! King barked happily and darted inside.

“Orders?” Duo repeated suspiciously. “You set King on her?”

Trowa winked mischievously as he followed King to the kitchen. “What’s that term Southerners use? Ah, yes. I’m laying low with the fidgets.”

It came to Duo’s mind that maybe, just maybe, Trowa was really a brat in disguise.
